"Our experience has shown us that organizing skills alone are not sufficient to build the kinds of coalitions necessary for a broad-based movement for social change. Racism is the single most critical barrier to building effective coalitions for social change. Racism has been consciously and systematically errected and it can be un-done if people understand what it is, where it comes from, how it functions and why it is perpetuated."
CMOP is not an organization that is conducting community organizing itself around particular issues. Rather, our CMOP partnership serves to enhance and interconnect the work and issues of our member groups, work which includes anti-racism and anti-oppression campaigns and strategies. We design our work to engage and amplify the voices of our member organizations that have traditionally been silenced and marginalized by systems of race and class.
